To all of our veterans and their families, I extend my deepest gratitude! I honor and salute you. I am incredibly grateful for your service. In the coming week, I look forward to honoring some of District 2's veterans with a special challenge coin. Over the course of Soldiers' careers, they will have the opportunity to receive challenge coins to commemorate events, milestones and accomplishments. This is just a small token of my appreciation and acknowledgement of the sacrifices you've made to serve our country. During our District 2 Town Hall in October, a number of residents had questions related to the responsibilities of the Fulton County Department of Public Works. Below are updates and answers to these questions from David Clark, the department's director. BUTNER ROAD AT CAMP CREEK: Inquiry: Citizens wanted to be sure that the TSPLOST intersection improvement project will include sufficient street lighting and signage at the intersection. They feel that the intersection is very dark and difficult to navigate if you are unfamiliar with the area. Response: The intersection will have updated signalization and signage in accordance with the standards of the MUTCD (the national design guide for transportation signs and signals). Greystone Power will also be asked to improve street lighting within the projects limits. Inquiry: Citizens wanted an update on the legal action taken by Fulton County regarding the property owner with the concrete block wall just south of the intersection. Response: The legal action does not involve Public Works. I have reached out to Attorney’s Office to see if they have any updates. ENON ROAD SIDEWALKS: Inquiry: Citizens wanted an update as to when the sidewalk project will be constructed. I provided a brief overview of the project and where we are at in the right-of-way acquisition process. I assure them that it was still a viable project that will be funded through TSPLOST. The citizens also requested information about the types of streetlights that will be used as part of the project. Response: Transportation staff are working with the consultant to ensure the project stays on schedule. Regarding ROW acquisition, 30 of the 37 parcels for this project have been acquired. The remaining 7 parcels may have to be acquired via eminent domain, the land division staff is actively working the remaining property owners to resolve the disputes in value. Project should be ready to advertise once all ROW is acquired. Greystone Power is the Power company and will be getting a status on street lighting along the projects limits. Spring 2018 for Construction letting. MERK ROAD SIDEWALKS: Inquiry: Sidewalks are being requested along Merk between Camp Creek and Aldredge Road. Response: This section is included in the Comprehensive Transportation Plan for South Fulton. However, no funding commitments or construction schedules have been developed. THE FALLS AT CASCADE PALMS: Inquiry: The neighborhood is appreciative that the second phase was recently topped. The residents would like to know when the first phase will be resurfaced. Response: The roads were assessed prior to the development of the TSPLOST Program and found to be in better than good condition. Therefore, they are not planned to be resurfaced as part of the TSPLOST program. OLD FAIRBURN ROAD: Inquiry: Requested additional liter pick up along this corridor. I drove the corridor yesterday and did not notice any excessive litter. Response: Litter pick up on Old Fairburn Road occurred during the week of 10/30/2017. Inquiry: There was some concern about the patching that has occurred over the past week. I explained to them that it was just the first step in the resurfacing process and the corridor will be resurfaced in the coming week using TSPLOST funds. Response: Patching of Old Fairburn Road was been completed immediately before the Town Hall meeting and resurfacing of the corridor was finished during the week of October 30th. CAMP CREEK PARKWAY: Inquiry: The citizens understand that GDOT cuts the grass along this roadway. They are reporting that GDOT does not seem to cut it as frequently west of Enon Road (towards FIB) as they do east of Enon Road (towards 285). Response: GDOT stated that both ends of Camp Creek Pkwy are cut at the same frequency and there isn’t a break at Enon Road OLD FAIRBURN ROAD: Inquiry: Raised concerns about speeds and truck traffic in general along this route. Response: the last truck and speed traffic count was conducted in May 2011. Transportation staff will be collecting new traffic information during the month of November. SR 70/154 (FULTON <https://maps.google.com/?q=SR+70/154+(FULTON&entry=gmail&source=g> INDUSTRIAL AT CAMPBELLTON) INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS: Inquiry: Do you have an update on where the state is on their intersection improvement project? Response: GDOT is on schedule to have the design completed by the end of November. A projected construction letting scheduled for June 2018 as a quick response project. TRUCK PARKING ALONG CASCADE-PALMETTO HIGHWAY: Inquiry: Is the area that trucks use for long-term parking just south of the Campbellton intersection off the public right-of-way? If not, is there anything that can be done to restrict the parking that is occurring there? Response: Trucks have been using the declaration lane of an abandoned gated subdivision on the west side of Cascade Palmetto approximately 1000 feet north of Cascading Lane for parking and trailer storage. An ordinance prohibiting parking may need to be enacted before posting of any restrictions. The Department of Public Works will be one of the last departments to transition over in 2018.
