Community Updates | November 7, 2017 Dear Residents, In anticipation of the transition of Parks and Recreation from the county to the city in January (to be followed by Fire and Police in February and March respectively), the city is moving full speed ahead with the renaming process. The name selected will not only be used to brand personnel uniforms and vehicles, but also (and more importantly) set the tone and cement the image for our new city. Two agencies have been selected by the city to guide us in the process for establishing a new name and branding. Those agencies are VIVO360, under the leadership of Sophie Gibson, and firstClass, inc., under the leadership of Bunnie Jackson-Ransom. They have provided us with a list of 20 names that are finalists in this process. Please be assured that I would never share your information with a third party. I take this matter very seriously and I have been in contact with the appropriate authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly. Internet privacy and security are especially sensitive topics following the Equifax breach and other major information breaches that have impacted Americans nationwide. It's important to be aware that there are laws in place designed to protect you and punish offenders. Spammers under certain circumstances may be subject to criminal penalties (even imprisonment). Both the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have protocols in place to report unsolicited emails. To report unsolicited emails, the Federal Trade Commission advises that you forward unwanted or deceptive messages to: - the Federal Trade Commission at spam@uce.gov. Be sure to include the complete spam email. - your email provider. At the top of the message, state that you're complaining about being spammed. Some email services have buttons that allow you to mark messages as junk mail or report them spam. - the sender's email provider, if you can tell who it is. Most web mail providers and ISPs want to cut off spammers who abuse their system. Again, make sure to include the entire spam email and say that you're complaining about spam. Additionally, if you try to unsubscribe from an email list and your request is not honored, it is your right to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
