A New Way Forward in Choosing the Name of Our City

As many of you already know, the City Council voted 4-3 to change the name
of our City to Renaissance.  The mayor now has 10 days to veto this
change.  If the major chooses to veto the Resolution, the name of our City
will remain the City of South Fulton for the time being.  Four things
became very evident last night:

The Citizens of our City are motivated, energized, and want to
participate in choosing the name of our City.
2.

The Mayor and City Council need to settle the question about the name of
our City in the next several weeks, so that they can move forward with
Major purchase orders that require the name to be finalized.  If this is
not done, it could be a major financial impact against our budget.
3.

The cost involved in holding a referendum managed by Fulton County
Elections may be cost prohibitive considering the current precarious
financial position of the City.
4.

The Mayor and City Council are very open to finding a way to let the
Citizens participate in this process

I have an idea that will satisfy each of the concerns above.  I propose
that the City Council offer five names for our City.  On Monday, January
15, 2018 (Dr. King’s Holiday), Our Mayor and City Council open up the
Fulton Government Center on Stonewall Tell and allow the Citizens to come
in and vote for one of the five choices.  The voting process could be
manned by Citizens of South Fulton Volunteers.  The City could obtain a
printout of the City Voting Rolls, and we could check the names off as
people came in to vote.  We could print simple paper ballots with the name
of the five choices.  At the end of the day, we could have a public
counting of the ballots.  The name that receives the most votes, would be
ratified and officially voted on by our City Council:

Transparent, Community Involvement, No Additional Cost to the City

If you agree with this approach, please email the Mayor and City Council,
and let them know.  All we need is for the Mayor to veto the Ordinance to
move forward with this plan.

Thank you Neighbors,

Keith
