What will we be called? This question has been on the top of the list since the Citizens of South Fulton decided to form a new city. Many names have been suggested, debated, ridiculed, and supported. But one thing is clear, there is a passion and desire to be part of the process. The Citizens of South Fulton want their voices to be heard. I believe the only way that this can be achieved is by holding a referendum, where the Citizens of South Fulton can vote for the new name of our city. I have spoken with representatives from the Secretary of State - Elections Division, and the Fulton County Board of Registrations and Elections. The City Council can place a referendum question on the ballot during the next Special Election, which will be held on March 20, 2018. There will be a cost associated with the referendum. The city would be responsible to pay for the poll workers at the voting precincts, but the city could also choose which precincts would be open to accept votes. But I think that would be a small price to pay to allow the Citizens to vote on such an important issue. I propose that the Mayor and City Council choose five names to be placed on the ballot. The Citizens would then vote on these five names, and the name that received the most votes would become the name of our new city. I plan to present this plan to the Mayor and City Council at the next City Council Meeting on December 12, 2017, but I need your support.
