Hello Keith,
I hope that all is well. It is my understanding that the Neighborhood
HOA Management company will begin this month. I am very happy to hear
this and hope that Management Company will be able to work with our
Association to enforce the community by-laws established by the Covenant.
While it is our expectation that violators of the code will be convinced
to honor their responsibilities as members of a covenant community, it is
clear that there are some concerns that may not be addressed by the
covenant. I would like to suggest that we establish a Neighborhood
Beautification Committee. One of the selling points of moving into Canaan
Walk was that it was expected to be the premier community among the Canaan
communities. When one rides through our neighborhood now , it is clear
that we are not living up to the expectations. As homeowners, we need
to be concerned about curb appeal. There are homes in the neighborhood
that are in need of attention. A commitment to controlling weeds ( yellow
and white dandelions) in lawns, uncut lawns, untrimmed shrubbery, bare
islands, etc. are causing our community to appear as one where homeowners
are not concerned about community aesthetics.
Lawn upkeep can be expensive and not a priority when juggling varied
expenses. Is there a way for us to set up a fund for neighbors who would
like to improve their curb appeal but are not able at this moment to
expend the funds ? The reality is that one poorly manicured lawn reflects
upon all of us.
We need to operate as a community and not a bunch of isolated homes
without any shared sense of what it means to live in a community. To
live in a covenant community means that you are buying into a standard of
care and presentation. I am willing to work with others to brainstorm
about ways to make our community more beautiful.
Let me know your thoughts.
Thank you,
Cynthia Neal Spence

It has been brought to my attention that one of the properties in question is my home at 685 Highland Oaks. The tenants of our property are not violators, but renters. We have notified them of this concern.
Our tenants are aware of the covenants. They are an upstanding family. Hopefully this issue will not discourage them from becoming homeowners instead of renters in the community.
Our renters do have scheduled lawn care. Please be mindful that the rains of April have yielded natural growth of grass and unwanted weeds and such. It's being handled.
Please also remember we not just homeowners, but neighbors.
We appreciate the acknowledgment of your concerns.
