Subject: RE: Yet another crime at the CITGO at 5225 Campbellton @ Boat
Rock (DAYTIME!!)
Below is the email I sent to Delphine Knaff just a few minutes ago
regarding this incident and the rash of similar crimes in the Metro area.
This problem is not isolated to South Fulton or SW Atlanta, it is Metro
wide. In truth it is the newest crime problem in many of the urban and
suburban areas in the country.
We are addressing it the best we can, but we cannot sit at convenience
stores indefinitely. Instead, we use analytics and targeted intelligence
led techniques to arrest the people committing these crimes. It is rare
that they stay in jail longer than a few days to a week before they are
released on a low bond, if any bond is required at all.
It is not the “wild west” when citizens rightfully protect themselves and
their property and there are many lawful ways to do this. Be aware of your
surroundings, call the police if you see something suspicious, and never
leave valuables in your car (not even under the seat) no matter where you
are. As a small tip, these criminals many times are present and watching as
you get out of car. IF they see a woman exit a car with no purse they
pretty much assume it is in the car, or they might see you put it under the
seat.

Delphine,
Thank you for your involvement and your earnest desire to help.
The police department has been, and is continuing to investigate this
location and these types of crimes particularly. My Crime Analysis and
Crime Suppression Units have identified a number of groups of young men
committing these crimes in South Fulton as well as Atlanta, Cobb, and
Dekalb Counties. We have arrested quite a large number of them for crimes
ranging from armed robbery, car-jacking, motor vehicle theft and even
murder. So far all of those arrested have been repeatedly released on bond
with the exception of the murder suspect. When they are out of jail they
return to their criminal activity.
Additionally, Captain Cotton-Tukes’ Team is assisting with crime patrols,
and crime prevention education.
If you watch the local news you will see that hardly a night goes by in
metro Atlanta where this type of crime occurs.
Thank you for your continued support!
I hope this is helpful.

(DAYTIME!!)
From Leslie Coleman:
"Listen! Women just completely stay away from the Citgo on the corner of
Campbellton & Boat rock. It's happening at night and as I have just
experienced in the middle of the day. They are snatching purses and even if
you try to outsmart them like I did by putting it under the seat it doesn't
matter. They’re coming for your purse! My day right now. Sigh... won't
steal my Joy though. I watched as it happened & they were so quick nothing
I could do. I'm ok though."
